Western Hills Santa

It was a Saturday morning the weekend before Christmas about 5 or 6 yrs ago and Donna came home from work and informed me that I had to take Sam to get his picture made with Santa. Donna works nights so this was about 8 in the morning when she informed me. Not sure what I had planned for that Saturday but I can promise you fighting holiday traffic jams and standing in line to get Sam's picture made with a bunch of crying youngins was not high on my priority list. By the way Sam had cried in every Santa picture we had made up to this point.I was brainstorming trying to figure how to get out of it, but I could'nt. So a couple of hours later we were on our way and then it hit me. I turned the car around and headed to Western Hills Mall because I figured the crowds would'nt be near what they were at the Galleria or Brookwood. I got there in about fifteen minutes and found a great parking spot. I walked right up to the Santa photo booth and there was no line. Sam walked right up to Santa, sat on his lap and told him what he wanted and for the first time he did'nt even cry. We were back home in an hour or so and I proudly placed the new Santa picture on the mantle along with the other Santa photos. I could'nt wait till Donna got up so I could show her the new Santa photo and tell her how easy it was.

Dixie Cup

Sam's friend Terry Robbins spent the night with us last night. He is in Sam's class at Mcadory Elementary and they go to church together. They had a great time and I did'nt have a minutes trouble out of them. When Michelle came to pick Terry up this afternoon I was telling her how good Terry and Sam were and I didnt even have to get on to them a single time. About that time Terry and Sam ran up and interrupted us and Terry proclaims proudly " I peed in a cup last night." I wish I had a picture of Michelle's face at that moment. I asked Terry why he peed in a cup, he said he could'nt make it to the bathroom. (Sam's room is next door to the bathroom.) Sounds like a dare to me. I'm not sure what else they did while I was asleep, I am afraid to ask. Apparently they hav'nt heard of " Do'nt ask, Do'nt tell!

Pet Cemetary

Last night around 9:30 Donna and I decided to go to bed. I stuck my head out the back door and called for Skippy to come in the house, she was nowhere in sight. I then started thinking I had not seen her all afternoon so I asked Donna if she had seen her.Donna had not seen her either. The last time I remember seeing her I took her for a ride in my truck to go to the Cabin up by Moore's Cemetary. I was meeting a lady from our SS class to look at the cabin for our Christmas party. So Donna, Sam and I take a ride up to the cemetary in our pj's with flashlights to see if we can find here. We are driving real slow with the windows rolled down, shining our flaslights out the window and hollering for Skippy. We pull up to the cabin by the cemetary and Skippy was sitting on the porch. I had went up there at 3:00, Skippy had been waiting on the porch for 6 and 1/2 hours patiently. Momma and Sam were very happy and I was glad that I don't have to get a puppy for Christmas!

Derecshions

Sam, my youngest son, is in the second grade at Mcadory Elementary. First grade was an adventure to say the least. Let's see we had before school detention, trips to the principals office, fighting, spitting, and last but not least the snot rocket incident. This year he is doing great, enjoys going to school, reading everything in sight and has not got into trouble at all until about two weeks ago. He came home with a note two days in a row from his teacher. I did'nt really say much the first day but after another note the next day I fussedat him pretty good and took away some of his priveleges {playstation, playing outside..etc}. After Donna and I went to bed that night he brought a letter in our bedroom for us to read.

Dear MoM and dad I no that you want Me to be nice to people and follow derecshions. and I no that you want me to be good in Scool. also I no that you want me to listen to people wy they are talking to me. and guess What I love you Mom and dad.

Ok so the spelling and punctuation are not perfect but I would'nt give anything for the content.Guess what Sam, we love you too.

Donna & Sam's Treehouse

We went to the lake this weekend in Pell City to visit our friends Bruce & Toni Foster, we had a great time. We had some great food, rode in the boat, went innertubing and jumped off rock faces into the lake. But mainly we just had some good fellowship. Sam went into the woods next door and found a treehouse. Toni told him that the next door neighbor Sharon and her son built it.Sam said he wanted Mom to help him build a treehouse in the woods. Sam said if Sharon and her son could do it then they could too.So Sunday evening I helped her pick out some lumber and nails and tools. When I came home from work Monday this is what I found.Sam thinks you are awesome Mom and so do I.

Pee & Poo

My wife Donna works at UAB Med West in the lab. She has the unfortunate duty of running test on our bodily fluids when we go visit the doctor and he orders test. The lab at UAB west has adopted Pee and Poo as the mascots for the lab, Pee represents a drop of urine and Poo represents a stool specimen. When employees of the lab go on a vacation they take Pee and Poo with them and bring back pictures to put in an album in the lab. Pee and Poo have recently traveled to the Carribean on a cruise, Europe and most recently on a weekend getaway to Orange Beach, Al. with my family. We took pics and Donna will be taking them to the lab to put in their album, but Pee and Poo asked that we share their story on our blog, so here it is.

Speeding tickets and beef jerky

I made some beef jerky this weekend, it was my first attempt. I borrowed a dehydrator from a friend and bought a 8lb. round roast, soaked it in a solution of teriyaki, orange juice, honey, hot sauce, salt, pepper and garlic powder. It needed a little more heat but I thought it was pretty good for my first time. I might buy a dehydrator and start making some on a regular basis,or not. My oldest son,Trey got a speeding ticket a couple of days ago, this is his second one. He got both tickets on the same road almost in the identical spot. I got the first ticket taken care of because it turned out I knew the officer. I guess Trey didnt learn his lesson. I am going to make him go to court and go to driving school and the ticket will not go on his record. He doesnt like that idea but I dont care and he will thank me later. I found out he got the ticket when I went in his room and it was lying on his bed (its amazing I could find it amongst all his clothes-dirty ones). I went completely off on him. I felt bad later when I thought back to my teenage years, getting stopped for going 96 miles an hour in my dads dodge colt station wagon,or doing donuts in the national guard armory parking lot,or doing burnouts coming out of the pool parking lot in my dads buick limited,or racing my dads ford ltd at the high school...... I think you get the idea. I dont remember my dad losing his cool but I am sure he did, my memory is probably just not that good. I guess its just part of growing up for boys. Well for a update on Sam, he has decided to play football , Me & Donna are so happy. I will be coaching his team. This will be my first attempt as a head coach in football. I am looking forward to the challenge. Me & Donna were not going to know what to do with ourselves with neither boy playing football this year. But I promised myself I would not trick him into playing this year and I didnt have to. Anyway, how does he think I am going to be able to live vicariously through him if he doesnt play.LOL.

Fire Alarm

It is 8:48 p.m and i just a call from the fire station next to the school and i have to go in and check a trouble signal they received from our alarm system. So while I am waiting on Trey to get home from ACC ( Alabama Cheerleading Center) so I can go check it out, I will write a little. Trey practices with his competition squad on Wednesday and Sunday and he instructs little ones on Monday ,Tuesday & Thursday in tumbling classes. Then on the weekends he's off to a competition. This weekend is Jamfest in Mobile. He doesnt get paid a lot of money from ACC but he gets to compete and train for free. If he gets a scholarship it will be worth it.I will try and post some video so you can see exactly what it is he does. Donna is about to leave for work, this is her last night.PTL. I have joked before about Donna's transformation from the eve before her last night till the next morning ,I'm not really joking ,maybe just exaggerating . I can't say that I blame her I don't know what kind of mood I would be in after working 7 nights in a row.Mom- Don says yes we are coming Thursday night to eat breakfast.( I know this is dangerous posting a feeding time on a blog that the Youngbloods read.) I think I hear Trey rumbling through the kitchen so I am taking off to work. Dad stop with the labels you are up to 29,this is ridicilous. K.I.S.S.

Prescription Cough Medicine & Ribeye Steak

I just finished eating a ribeye steak and I am retiring to the bed early to watch t.v. I don't really have a lot on my mind to write about but I am going to try and post something everyday. My father told me i need to. I'm not sure why.Me and Donna have been sick all weekend. I discovered her prescription cough medicine, she had to hide it because I loved it so much.As you probably know Trey has been on a competitve cheerleading squad for the last year in hopes to gain a scholarship. He has 3 college tryouts in April. ( University of Alabama,Shelton State & Wallace State) Be praying for him that he does well in all of his tryouts.

Jesus was a winner!!!

Sam had a basketball game today at Tannehill Valley Baptist Church. We won by the score of 39 to 12. That put's our record at 5-2 with one game remaining. Sam had a great game.I'm not sure how many points he scored but he was the leading scorer. Some of their fans were unhappy with the lopsided score. I guess they wanted my team to quit when they got ahead. My theory is if you don't like getting so many points scored against you then get a better defense. I love the fact that upward basketball goes out of it's way to encourage sportsmanship and guarantees each kid equal playing time. I love the fact that you get to share the gospel with each kid during the course of the season.I hate the fact you are made to feel guilty because your team excels . It smells of political correctness, which I despise. There is nothing wrong with compeeting and there is nothing wrong with winning. Jesus was a winner.

Snot Rockets

Today my youngest son is serving an in school detention. Tuesday I got a call from the principal while I was at work. While trying to control her laughter she explained to me that Sam had blown a snot rocket while at the lunch table. His teacher offered to buy the little girls sitting by him a lunch but they mysteriously lost their appetite. I have to take credit for teaching my son this technique, although I have never done this indoors. My mother chastised me because I did not explain to Sam that you don't do this indoors. I did explain to him that he did not have to go to such great lengths if he wanted the food on a little girls plate next to him. I always just stuck my finger in their food and asked "you dont want that do you?"I am sure that you women who are out there reading this will tell me how gross I am but I would rather blow snot rockets while working outside by myself than blow into a handkerchef all day and cram it back into my pocket. What nimrod came up with that concept? I was impressed with the pricipal because she was aware of the snot rocket terminology and even used it in the description of the events. Well I hope you ate before you read this story.

frisbee golf, dog parks, doorbells& parking for little leauge

These are just a few of the things ( among hundreds) that our federal goverment is spending our tax dollars on in an effort to stimulate our economy. To put in perspective how much money the goverment is planning on spending,if you went back in time to Jesus birth and spent a million dollars a day every day until now you still would not have spent as much money as the federal goverment is spending in one fail swoop. How is installing doorbells at a federal housing project in Mississippi or building a frisbee golf course or a dog park going to stimulate our economy. Or how about building parking lots for little leauge baseball fields in Puerto Rico, that' right I said Puerto Rico. I was'nt the best student in high school but I'm pretty confident that Puerto Rico is not a state. Why are we stimulating their economy. The best thing our goverment could do to stimulate our economy is do nothing, and let the free market economy rectify itself. If you would like to learn more about how our federal goverment is wasting your money go to stimuluswatch.org, you will be bumfuzzled.
On a lighter note thanks for the lunch yesterday Mom & Dad,Ginny & Debbie- I'm not really sure who paid for mine but thanks.
